PM Modi virtually launches Begumpet’s all-women-operated railway station

Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 103 Amrit Stations across the Indian Railways network today, May 22, 2025, through video conferencing. Three stations in Telangana, Begumpet, Warangal, and Karimnagar, were also part of the launch. The inauguration ceremony took place at Deshnoke railway station in Rajasthan, where Modi was physically present. He was joined by Haribhau Kisanrao Bagade, Governor of Rajasthan; Bhajanlal Sharma, Chief Minister of Rajasthan; Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of Railways, and other public representatives.

In Telangana, local events were held at Begumpet, Warangal, and Karimnagar stations. At Begumpet, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, along with Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Minister of Roads and Buildings, and M. Anil Kumar Yadav, Member of Parliament, participated in the event. Jishnu Dev Varma, Governor of Telangana, attended via video link. Senior officials from South Central Railway (SCR), including Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager of SCR, also attended.

At Warangal, key dignitaries included Union Minister Bhupatiraju Srinivasa Varma, Ponguleti Sreenivas Reddy, Minister of Revenue and Housing, and other Telangana government officials. In Karimnagar, Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar and Telangana’s Minister of Transport Ponnam Prabhakar were present to mark the occasion.

Speaking at the event in Begumpet, G. Kishan Reddy highlighted that over 1,300 railway stations nationwide have been identified for redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. He emphasized that 103 stations, including the three from Telangana, have already been completed and inaugurated today. He also mentioned that 40 stations in Telangana are set to be redeveloped under the scheme.

Kishan Reddy also noted that Begumpet station has been designated as an All-Women Station, where all daily operations are managed by female staff. The redevelopment of Begumpet station cost Rs 26.55 crore and includes modern amenities like a new facade, a 12-meter foot overbridge, lifts and escalators, and enhanced signage.

Kishan Reddy also mentioned the record allocation of Rs 5,337 crore for rail development in Telangana, including initiatives like the installation of Kavach safety systems and the construction of new road overbridges and underbridges. Komatireddy Venkatreddy, Minister of Telangana, expressed his gratitude that three stations in the state are now part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and urged for faster implementation of the MMTS Phase-II extension to Yadadri, which would benefit suburban commuters and pilgrims visiting the Yadadri temple.

Anil Kumar Yadav, Member of Parliament, praised the redevelopment of stations to world-class standards, particularly noting Begumpet station’s location in the heart of the city. Beerla Ilaiah, MLA of Alair, also requested improved train connectivity to the Yadadri temple through the MMTS Phase-II extension.

Arun Kumar Jain, GM of SCR, concluded by acknowledging the timely completion of redevelopment work at Begumpet, Warangal, and Karimnagar stations, noting that a total of 119 stations in the SCR jurisdiction are under redevelopment as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
