Hyderabad: St. Francis College for Women’s Department of Mass Communication and Journalism marked World Photography Day with CHITRANJAN 2025, featuring an inter-college photography competition, exhibition, and a special talk by renowned commercial photographer Prashant Manchikanti.

The Head of the Department, K. Ravi Kumar during his address said that photography is the medium of universal value. It has the power to inspire, inform and influence people's lives in countless ways. He highlighted the objectives behind the initiative of this celebration, to showcase the photography skills of the students and to encourage them to express their creativity behind the lens.

Principal, Prof. T Uma Joseph, reflected on the time when there was no photography and how people had to remember everything to keep memories alive. She underlines how the invention of photography helped people capture moments and freeze them forever and also how a photograph doesn’t just capture memories but tells a story, preserves evidence in crime investigation and a lot more. “This World photography day, we must celebrate not just the professionals but everybody who is passionate about photography and the teachers who keep the skills alive for so many young minds” said Prof. Joseph.

During the event, a Charter showcasing the vision and mission of Communis Club, the flagship club of the department of Mass Communication and Journalism was unveiled by the dignitaries.

The Chief guest, Prashant Manchikanti a renowned photographer, curator and storyteller, awarded the winners of the intercollegiate photography competition with certificates and cash prizes. The competition witnessed around 150 entries with 56 participants across colleges in the city on the theme “evoking emotions”.

The event was followed by an engaging session by the resource person on ‘Framing Success: commercial strategies and creative process of photography behind Food, travel & leisure, Wedding and Journalism’. He focused on skills like observation, situation analysis and highlighted how important these skills are for a photographer. He talked about various types of photography and skills involved. He called out all aspiring photographers emphasizing the demand in the market today. And he also shared some real life tips for commercial success in photography.

CHITRANJAN 2025 celebrating photography and student creativity witnessed the participation of over 150 students from the host college and other colleges within Hyderabad.
