Hyderabad: Pedestrians on Minister Road in Hyderabad are forced to climb over high dividers to cross the road, as the stretch lacks a proper median and zebra crossings. The issue has raised safety concerns among local residents and commuters, who are urging the Hyderabad Traffic Police to take immediate action.

The problem was highlighted on social media by user Rusty (@Rusty_2001), who posted, “People on Minister Road, Hyderabad, are forced to climb the high dividers to cross the road due to no median & zebra crossing.”

Similar issues were reported at the junction of T-Hub and T-Works, where pedestrians face difficulties due to poor infrastructure. Santhana Selvan, Bicycle Mayor of Hyderabad, flagged the issue on X (formerly Twitter), criticizing the lack of pedestrian-friendly design. “This location, including the junction of T-Hub and T-Works, is designed only for cars and motorists, with no consideration for active mobility,” Selvan said.

He noted that although there is a pedestrian crossing at the junction, it is not practical to use. Selvan emphasized the need for inclusive road design, pointing out that many people rely on walking for last-mile connectivity from metro stations and bus stops. “Pedestrians are the majority, yet they are ignored,” he said. “A developed city is one where people can walk, cycle, and use public transportation safely.”

Other users shared similar frustrations. Goutham commented, “There is no respect for cyclists' lives on the roads. I demand separate lanes for two-wheelers.” Team Road Squad (@Team_Road_Squad) wrote, “After studying so hard for jobs and struggling in life, this is how we cross the road. Zero respect.” Hi Hyderabad (@HiHyderabad) added, “There should be a pedestrian gap at this junction.”

Residents facing related infrastructure problems, including water and sewerage issues, can contact the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) through its customer service numbers — 155313 or 040-23300114 — or on X. For issues related to civic infrastructure, citizens can reach out to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) via its official handle @GHMCOnline.

The GHMC governs Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, and serves a population of 7.9 million across 650 square kilometers. HMWSSB, established on November 1, 1989, is responsible for the city’s water supply and sewerage services.

Pedestrian safety advocates continue to call on authorities to make Hyderabad's roads safer and more accessible for all.
