Hyderabad MP Owaisi slams Trump-brokered India-Pakistan ceasefire, calls for government answers
Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has raised concerns over the recent ceasefire announcement between India and Pakistan, following a deadly attack in Pahalgam.
Owaisi, addressing the issue on social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), stated: “As long as Pakistan uses its territory for terrorism against India, there can be no permanent peace. Ceasefire or no ceasefire, we must pursue the terrorists responsible for the Pahalgam attack.”
He reaffirmed his support for the Indian government and armed forces, saying, “I have always stood by the government and the armed forces against external aggression. This will continue. I thank the armed forces for their bravery and commendable skill. I pay homage to Army jawan M. Murali Naik and ADDC Raj Kumar Thapa, and I pray for all civilians who were killed or injured.”

Welcoming temporary calm, Owaisi added, “I hope this ceasefire gives respite to the people living in border areas. I also hope that Indians and Indian political parties learn from the past two weeks—India is strong when it is united; our enemies benefit when Indians fight among themselves.”
Owaisi also questioned the government's handling of the ceasefire, expressing unease over what he described as a shift in India’s long-standing diplomatic stance. Referring to the announcement made by U.S. President Donald Trump, he remarked that the ceasefire should have been declared by India’s Prime Minister, not by a foreign leader. “We have always opposed third-party intervention since the Simla Agreement of 1972,” he said. “Why have we now accepted it? I hope the Kashmir issue will not be internationalised—it remains our internal matter.”
He also raised concerns about the venue and nature of the dialogue with Pakistan. “Why are we agreeing to talk on neutral territory? What will be the agenda? And more importantly, does the United States guarantee that Pakistan will no longer use its territory to support terrorism?” he asked.
Owaisi further questioned the strategic goals behind the ceasefire. “Have we achieved our aim of deterring Pakistan from launching future terror attacks? Was our objective to secure a ceasefire brokered by Trump, or to bring Pakistan to a point where it wouldn't dare consider another attack?”
He concluded by urging the government to sustain pressure on Pakistan through international mechanisms. “We must continue the diplomatic campaign to keep Pakistan on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list,” he said, calling for a consistent and firm foreign policy approach.
His remarks followed an announcement by U.S. President Donald J. Trump on ‘X’, stating: “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire. Congratulations to both countries on using common sense and great intelligence.”
However, despite the announcement, the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, said in a statement: “Repeated violations of the understanding reached today between the DGsMO of India and Pakistan have occurred. These breaches are being met with an adequate and appropriate response. Pakistan must act responsibly and prevent further violations. Our Armed Forces remain vigilant and are instructed to respond firmly to any provocation along the IB and LoC.”
The situation remains tense even as diplomatic channels continue efforts to maintain the ceasefire.
