Hyderabad: Students of Osmania University staged a dharna on Tuesday night after they reportedly found a razor blade in a curry served for dinner in the hostel mess.

The incident was reported at the university's Godavari hostel. The students carried a cart loaded with a curry vessel and the food plate in which the blade was found and kept it on the thoroughfare before launching a protest.

The students raised slogans against the administration and alleged that the varsity is playing with their lives. They wanted immediate action from the Vice Chancellor Prof M Kumar against those responsible.

Worms were found in the cabbage curry a couple of days ago, the students alleged. They also claimed that this is a recurring issue and every time it happens, the management promises, it will not happen again. They are charging us Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 3,000 per month for poor quality food, they lamented.

Not just food, university students have also complaints about the drinking water supply to the hostel. The students said the drinking water needs are being met with the water tankers and students often fall ill after drinking it.

Earlier this year, the students of the varsity held a similar protest over the poor quality of food served at the hostel mess. They protested with a card loaded with food vessels in front of the historic Arts College building and raised slogans against the chief warden.

During the protest, the students highlighted various issues including alleged stale food servings to the students, insufficient staff in the hostel kitchen and poor condition of hostel buildings.
