Hyderabad: Osmania University police reiterated that Osmania University must be regarded as a sacred temple of learning, not a space for political activities or casual gatherings. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) G. Jagan of Osmania University has issued a stern warning regarding the importance of maintaining a conducive academic environment on campus.

Speaking to the media, ACP G Jagan said, “Osmania University should be viewed as a temple of learning rather than a space for a political area or a picnic spot. Unfortunately, the campus—particularly the area in front of the Arts College—is being misused. Some former students, who are not current enrollees, are exploiting the landscape garden for political gains, disrupting academic peace.”

External issues are being unnecessarily dragged onto the campus, leading to conflicts. For instance, a dispute related to the Budaga Jangala Sangam was brought into the university premises, resulting in a violent clash between groups. Additionally, real estate brokers have been misusing the space for settlements, added Jagan in a video message.

“Many outsiders are manipulating students and organizing political programs, turning the campus into a protest ground (Dharna Chowk) and picnic spot. Such activities will no longer be tolerated. The university must remain a place of education, not a hub for political agitation or unruly behaviour,” reiterated ACP Jagan.

What prompted the police to issue a stern warning?

On Saturday night, during a routine patrol, police officers noticed loud noises coming from Tagore Auditorium in the campus premises. Upon inquiry, they found a group of eight individuals partying, consuming alcohol, and causing a disturbance. When the officers intervened, urging them to maintain decorum, the group responded with verbal abuse and obstructed police duties. A case has been registered against them, and they have been sent to judicial custody with Section 41(A) CrPC notices issued.

“The message is clear: Osmania University is a temple of learning with a rich history and legacy. The purpose for which students join this institution—education—must not be sidetracked by vested interests. The ACP's concern is to ensure that the campus remains a safe and disciplined space, upholding its core ideals,” read a statement released by the Osmania University administration.

Further administration urged the student community to understand the gravity of the ACP message and cooperate in preserving our university's sanctity.
