Hyderabad: A 96-year-old woman took her own life by setting herself on fire as she was tired of living a lonely life. The incident occurred under Chikkadpally police station limits. The deceased woman was identified as Sarojini Devi, and she was living alone in an apartment in Ashok Nagar.

Noticing smoke coming out of her flat, neighbours called the police, who shifted her body to the mortuary of Gandhi Hospital. The police found a note in the flat, which read Devi was ending her own life as she did not want to trouble her children anymore.

Following the death of her husband, Devi was living alone in their flat on the fourth floor of Jawahar Nagar Siddhamshetty apartment. She was battling with old age-related problems. It is reported that she did not want to be a burden for her children – two sons and three daughters. Younger son Ravichandra, who lives in a nearby apartment, would serve food to his mother three times a day while elder son Prasad has settled abroad.
