Nigerian man living illegally in Hyderabad deported for drug trafficking
HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) has deported a Nigerian national, Onuorah Solomon Chibueze, 46, to his native country for overstaying in India and engaging in drug peddling. The deportation was carried out in coordination with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Hyderabad.
Nigerian overstayed for over 11 years
According to the police, Chibueze, a resident of Attapur in Hyderabad and native of Anambra State, Nigeria, had entered India on a medical visa on August 14, 2014, which expired on September 23, 2014. His passport also lapsed on January 16, 2016. Despite this, he continued living illegally in India.
Investigations revealed that Chibueze initially worked in restaurants in Delhi and Bengaluru before moving to Hyderabad in September 2024. Here, he began procuring ganja from Pune and Mumbai and selling it locally at higher prices for profit.
Caught in Tolichowki during patrol
Police said the accused was found wandering suspiciously within the Tolichowki police station limits. Upon questioning, he failed to produce valid documents for his stay in India. During interrogation, he admitted to overstaying without a visa or passport and to engaging in illegal drug-related activities.
Following due process, H-NEW obtained an Emergency Travel Document from the Nigerian High Commission, New Delhi, and an exit permit from the FRRO. A travel ticket was booked for his return from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in the early hours of October 9, 2025. A team led by Inspector G.S. Daniel and Sub-Inspector C. Venkata Ramulu escorted and deported Chibueze to Nigeria.
Public urged to report drug activity
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Task Force/H-NEW) Y.V.S. Sudheendra said the operation was part of Hyderabad Police’s efforts to curb the activities of foreign nationals involved in drug trafficking and overstaying.
He appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any information related to drug abuse or illegal drug trade to H-NEW at 8712661601. “Let’s work together for a drug-free Hyderabad,” he said.
