1,188 bottles seized in NDPL raids across Telangana, including Rs. 2.3L defense liquor

Hyderabad: The Malakajgiri Excise Department is intensifying its crackdown on the illegal sale of defense liquor. In recent raids, officials seized 30 liquor bottles in Malkajgiri and 28 in Ghatkesar.

Officials say the unauthorized sale of defense liquor is affecting Telangana's liquor revenue. There are allegations that liquor meant for defense personnel is being sold illegally in areas under the jurisdiction of the Secunderabad and Malkajgiri Excise Superintendents, where several defense canteens operate.

Excise Superintendent K. Naveen said a special drive was launched following reports of illegal distribution and sale of defense liquor in Malkajgiri, Uppal, Ghatkesar, and Medchal.

As part of a statewide drive led by Prohibition and Excise Enforcement Director Shahnawaz Qasim against Non-Duty Paid Liquor (NDPL), officials seized 1,188 liquor bottles. Among them, Shamshabad DTF CI Praveen Kumar recovered 115 defense liquor bottles worth ₹2.30 lakh.

Malkajgiri AES Mukund Reddy oversaw raids at two locations that led to the seizure of 37 defense liquor bottles two days ago. In Medchal, 24 NDPL liquor bottles were seized.

On Thursday, additional raids in Malkajgiri and Ghatkesar resulted in the seizure of 58 more defense liquor bottles. In another case, Malkajgiri CI Chandrasekhar, along with SIs Kumaraswamy and Sandhya, seized 30 bottles from a flat in Yapral Alwal, belonging to a man identified as Dunna.

In Ghatkesar, CI J. Ravi and SI Nandini intercepted a car carrying 28 bottles of Goa and defense liquor. A suspect, Merugu Nikhil, was arrested and the vehicle was seized.
