Navodaya Vidyalayas reunion celebrates legacy of 10 lakh alumni
Hyderabad: Hyderabad recently played host to a grand reunion of alumni from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas across southern states. The Regional Alumni Meet - 2025, held at the GMC Balayogi Stadium in Gachibowli, saw an active participation of nearly 5,000 former students from 77 schools across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Puducherry, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. They had gathered under one roof to relive cherished memories of their school days.
Navodaya Vidyalayas, run by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), have shattered stereotypes of sub-standard educational institutions by nurturing a generation of super achievers. Today, the NVS boasts of a stellar alumni network as it includes IAS and IPS officers.
The reunion was a trip down memory lane for the alumni who are serving in various capacities in diverse professions across the country. The alumni meet began with a heartfelt tribute to their teachers, who were honored with mementos and shawls as a mark of gratitude. On this occasion, they honored their teachers who had shaped their futures.
Several alumni, who have excelled in various fields, shared their professional experiences to inspire the next generation.
“With 661 Navodaya Vidyalayas and nearly 10 lakh alumni nationwide, the impact of these institutions is monumental. Organizing regional alumni meets like this annually is truly commendable,” said the chief guest and Navodaya alumnus Gandham Chandrudu, IAS.
The event was also graced by prominent figures, including Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti’s Joint Commissioner from Delhi, Jnanendra Kumar; Hyderabad Region Deputy Commissioner T. Gopalakrishna; and Dr. Bhaskar Rao, Chairman of KIMS Hospitals. The two-day alumni meet concluded with colourful celebrations, as former students took part in cultural programmes.
