Actor Nagarjuna files criminal defamation case against Minister Konda Surekha

Hyderabad: Tollywood actor Akkineni Nagarjuna filed a criminal and defamation case against Telangana's Minister for Forest and Environment, Konda Surekha, in Nampally Court on October 3, 2024. The complaint is based on the minister's derogatory comments.

The complaint was registered under Section 222, read with Section 223 of the B.N.S.S., and the offenses were punishable under Section 356 of the B.N.S.

The legal complaint Nagarjuna filed highlighted his family's respected status in the Indian film industry, noting their nearly 40-year legacy and over 90 films across various languages.

The complaint outlines how Konda Surekha, as a prominent political figure, used media platforms to make unverified and defamatory statements. Nagarjuna expressed shock upon seeing clips of her comments circulated widely on social media.

Nagarjuna argued that the controversial statements were baseless and aimed at tarnishing his family’s reputation for political gain. The impact of these allegations prompted numerous inquiries from friends and colleagues, leading Nagarjuna to issue a public statement condemning Surekha's remarks.

The complaint detailed the emotional distress and reputational damage incurred by Nagarjuna and his family as a result of these accusations. It asserted that the statements constituted a criminal offense under the law, and he sought justice for the harm caused.

Nagarjuna has urged the Nampally Court to consider the matter and hold Konda Surekha accountable for her statements and the need for justice in light of the circumstances.
