Hyderabad: The Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti (MRPS) strongly condemned the recent attack on Supreme Court Chief Justice B.R. Gavai, describing it as a caste-motivated act during a press conference in Somajiguda on Friday. MRPS called for immediate justice and announced plans for nationwide protests.

MRPS President Manda Krishna Madiga told the media that Justice B R Gavai was targeted because he is Dalit. “Some people do not like Dalits in high positions,” he said, calling the attack an assault on the Chief Justice, democracy, and the Constitution.

Manda Krishna Madiga agreed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's condemnation, calling his response “the response of the people.” They demanded that the Delhi Police register a case and ensure strict punishment, warning that downplaying the shoe-throwing would be a mistake.

Madiga stressed the Constitution's importance to Dalit communities, saying, "The Constitution is more important to us than any religious text. Ambedkar's Constitution recognized us as human beings.” He contrasted criticism of Justice Gavai with the absence of backlash against upper-caste judges, calling this disparity a ‘blatant fact.’

Call for protests

MRPS announced protests, including black flag demonstrations at collector offices on October 13, protests across all mandal centres on October 17, a ‘Chalo Hyderabad’ rally on October 22 in Telangana, and rallies in Amaravati, Chennai, and Bengaluru from October 23 to 25.

MRPS also addressed Backward Class (BC) reservations, urging Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to convene an all-party meeting to secure 42 per cent BC reservations without legal barriers. They commended Reddy for advancing the issue but criticized parties that welcomed the High Court stay.

MRPS pledged to collaborate with SC and ST organizations to advocate for the implementation of the 42 per cent reservation.
