Mother drowns newborn in bucket in Mailardevpally, blames struggles over husband’s health
Hyderabad: A 14-day-old infant was found dead in Mailardevpally on Tuesday, March 25. Police have now confirmed that the mother intentionally killed the child.
According to the father’s initial complaint, Mani, the mother, had placed her baby on a bed before going to take a bath. Upon her return, she discovered the baby was missing. After searching the house, she found the infant drowned in a bucket of water. Mani immediately informed her husband, Vijju, who rushed the baby to a nearby hospital, where the infant was declared dead on arrival.
Initially, the father claimed that someone might have taken the baby and placed her in the bucket, which led to the drowning. However, after a detailed investigation, police concluded that the infant’s death was not an accident but a result of intentional harm.
The couple, originally from Tamil Nadu, had moved to Hyderabad four years ago for work. Mani and her husband, Vijju, who suffers from kidney failure, had been facing significant financial struggles. Mani later confessed to killing the baby, explaining that she felt unable to care for both children and was concerned about the future.
A post-mortem confirmed that the baby died from excessive water intake. Mani was arrested after admitting to the crime. She has been presented before the court, and her statement has been recorded. The investigation is ongoing.
