In a tragic incident early this morning, a massive fire broke out in a multi-storey building located at Gulzar House Chowrasta near Charminar in Hyderabad, resulting in the loss of eight lives and injuring several others. The blaze erupted around 6:16 AM on the ground floor of a G+2 building and rapidly spread to the upper floors, trapping multiple residents inside.
Responding swiftly to the emergency call, a fire tender from the Moghalpura Fire Station along with its crew rushed to the site. Firefighting and rescue operations were carried out simultaneously by the Telangana Fire Disaster Response, Emergency & Civil Defence Department. As a result of their timely intervention, 17 individuals who were trapped on the first floor were successfully rescued and immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Despite their efforts, 17 individuals tragically lost their lives in the incident. The victims include both elderly citizens and young children, among them were Prahlad (70), Munni (70), Rajendar Modi (65), Sumitra (60), and several children aged between one and seven years.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the unfortunate incident. In a message posted by the Prime Minister’s Office, he said, "Deeply anguished by the loss of lives due to a fire tragedy in Hyderabad, Telangana. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon." The Prime Minister also announced an ex-gratia amount of ₹2 lakh each for the families of those who lost their lives and ₹50,000 for each of the injured, to be disbursed from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, visited the site of the tragedy and addressed the media. He assured the public that he would discuss the situation with the Prime Minister and seek additional financial assistance for the affected families.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu also expressed his condolences. In a message shared on social media, he wrote, "Deeply saddened by the loss of innocent lives in the tragic fire at Gulzar House, Hyderabad. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the swift recovery of the injured."
Authorities are continuing investigations into the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, rescue teams and medical personnel remain on-site, ensuring all necessary aid and support is extended to the victims and their families.
