Hyderabad: Citizens in Hyderabad are urging the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) to resume bus services from Hitech City MMTS Station, highlighting the lack of affordable last-mile connectivity. Currently, passengers using the MMTS service to reach the station are entirely dependent on auto-rickshaws, which many find costly and inconvenient.

Citizens say that before the COVID-19 pandemic, TGSRTC operated buses from this station, but the services have not been reinstated since.

Krishna Chaitanya told Hyderabad Mail that he has repeatedly requested TGSRTC to consider restarting these services. He highlighted the need for the Telangana government to introduce smaller buses that can operate on narrow roads, enabling first and last-mile connectivity. He said this would not only help the public by offering a more economical and safer mode of travel but would also help TGSRTC increase its revenue and support efforts to reduce carbon emissions.

He added that running buses during MMTS operational hours would ease the commute for many daily passengers. With no public transport available from the station, people are left with limited and more expensive options. Chaitanya also raised the issue on the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), tagging the official handles of TGSRTC Headquarters, Managing Director V.C. Sajjanar, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, the Telangana Chief Minister’s Office, and the Chief Secretary. TGSRTC has not yet responded.

Meanwhile, TGSRTC has announced a revision of student bus pass charges and toll plaza user fees, effective from June 9, 2025. This follows the National Highways Authority of India’s (NHAI) annual revision of toll charges, which the state government has authorized TGSRTC to implement. Passengers travelling through toll plazas will now be charged an additional Rs. 10 per toll. However, this will not affect fares within Hyderabad city, as city routes do not pass through toll plazas.

Student bus pass charges, unchanged for the past three years, have now been revised in response to rising operational costs. In Hyderabad and Warangal, monthly passes for students covering various distance slabs have increased. The Student General Bus Ticket (GBT) monthly pass in these cities has risen from Rs. 400 to Rs. 600.

District route pass charges have also been revised upwards. Additionally, general monthly passes have been increased, with the ordinary city bus pass now costing Rs. 1,400, the Metro Express pass Rs. 1,600, and the Metro Deluxe pass Rs. 1,800.

To manage peak-hour crowding, TGSRTC has also decided to allow students to travel on Metro Express buses within Hyderabad, in addition to city ordinary buses. This step is aimed at improving the commuting experience for students and reducing congestion on popular routes.
