Migrant labourer beats wife to death with stick in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A 38-year-old migrant labourer from Rajasthan was arrested on Friday, November 22, 2024, for allegedly killing his wife by beating her with a stick.

The victim, identified as Soni (34), succumbed to injuries sustained during the assault. The accused, Vikram Kumar, had arrived in Hyderabad on November 19, 2024, and was residing near Malkajgiri Railway Station with his wife and daughter.

On November 20, 2024, a dispute arose between the couple, reportedly triggered by Soni's insistence that they return to their native place. In a fit of rage, Vikram brutally assaulted her with a stick, inflicting severe injuries.

Subsequently, he informed railway staff and transported Soni to Gandhi Hospital. However, she succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday. Following the incident, Vikram fled the scene with their one-year-old daughter.

Malkajgiri police registered a murder case and initiated an investigation. With the help of CCTV footage, they apprehended Vikram near Secunderabad Railway Station.

The accused has been remanded to judicial custody, while their daughter has been placed under the care of women and child welfare officials.
