Microsoft marks 25 years in Hyderabad with new Gachibowli campus

Microsoft inaugurated its new campus in Gachibowli, Hyderabad, on Thursday. The 1.1 million sq ft campus will house 2,500 employees and is LEED-certified for sustainability. This expansion makes Hyderabad Microsoft's largest R&D hub outside the US. The company plans to hire 4,800 more employees in the next few months and invest Rs. 15,000 crore in expanding its AI data centers in Telangana. Alongside the campus opening, Microsoft announced several initiatives with the Telangana government to promote AI education and skills development. These include: AI training for 1.2 lakh people across the state. AI Foundations Academy in 500 government schools. Upskilling 20,000 industry professionals through AI-Industry Pro. Training 50,000 government officials on digital productivity, Generative AI, and cybersecurity. Establishment of an AI Center of Excellence (AICoE) to develop AI infrastructure and a knowledge hub. Meanwhile, Google also announced an AI Accelerator in Hyderabad to support startups and develop AI-driven solutions. This initiative involves a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Telangana government.

Hyderabad: Celebrating its 25 years in Hyderabad, the tech giant Microsoft established a new campus, which was inaugurated by the chief minister A Revanth Reddy, along with IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu, on Thursday.

The new campus is built on a sprawling 1.1 million sq. ft. area in Gachibowli and it will accommodate 2,500 additional employees. The facility has also been LEED-certified due to its sustainability.

The tech giantโ€™s Hyderabad centre is its largest R&D hub outside its U.S. headquarters as it is a workplace of half of over 20,000 employees in India. The company is planning to increase its headcount by 4,800 in the next few months. It also announced that it will invest Rs. 15,000 crore to expand its hyperscale AI data centers in the state.

On this occasion, Revanth Reddy said, โ€œHyderabad and Microsoft have grown together, and as a proud representative of this state, I can say with certainty this is just the beginning. The world looks at Hyderabad today as a technology powerhouse, a city that nurtures innovation and attracts global talent. And with partners like Microsoft, the future is even brighter.โ€

Meanwhile, Microsoft said it has partnered with the government to provide AI training to 1.2 lakh people across the state. The tech company also announced that under the Advanta(i)ge Telangana initiative, it will establish AI Foundations Academy to introduce AI education in 500 government schools which is expected to provide relevant skills to 50,000 students.

The other initiatives include AI-Industry Pro, which will upskill 20,000 industry professionals, while AI-Govern will train 50,000 government officials in digital productivity, Generative AI, and cybersecurity.

Microsoft will also collaborate with the Telangana government to establish an AI Center of Excellence (AICoE). This center will develop a cloud-based AI infrastructure and create a centralized AI Knowledge Hub, compiling research, case studies, and best practices.

Google to set up AI Accelerator in Hyderabad

With an aim to empower start-ups and fast-track the development of AI-driven solutions for society, Google on Thursday announced that it will set up an AI Accelerator in Hyderabad.

Google has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Telangana government. The partnership was inked by Telangana IT minister D Sridhar Babu and a representative of Google in the presence of chief minister Revanth Reddy at T-Hub in the city.
