Medchal & Shamirpet residents seek eco-friendly electric buses for public transport
Medchal: Residents of Medchal and Shamirpet areas have appealed to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to consider the introduction of electric buses and the Pushpak Airport Liner to enhance public transport services in their region.
The residents, along with members of the North Hyderabad Development Forum and Medchal Metro Sadhana Samithi, have formally submitted a letter requesting the implementation of these eco-friendly and efficient transportation options.
The letter highlights the urgent need for improved public transport infrastructure in Medchal and Shamirpet, which are currently underserved compared to other parts of Hyderabad. "While the city of Hyderabad is transitioning towards more eco-friendly electric buses, our area remains neglected in terms of modern public transportation," the letter reads.
The residents are requesting the allocation of 100 electric buses to Medchal and surrounding depots. They highlight that this initiative would provide sustainable, pollution-free travel for thousands of daily commuters and significantly improve the local transportation network.
In addition to electric buses, the residents have also urged the Telangana government to introduce Pushpak Airport Liner AC buses connecting Medchal to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. Currently, travelers from North Hyderabad face challenges due to the lack of direct transport services to the airport. The proposed Pushpak service would offer much-needed relief to frequent travelers, employees, and students commuting to the airport.
The members of the North Hyderabad Development Forum and Medchal Metro Sadhana Samithi expressed confidence that with the Telangana Chief Minister's support, these much-needed services could be introduced swiftly, ensuring balanced development across all parts of Hyderabad.
“We kindly request you to take necessary steps and consider our plea with utmost priority,” the North Hyderabad Development Forum and Medchal Metro Sadhana Samithi request letter concluded, expressing hope for a prompt response and early implementation of the proposed services.
What are electric buses and how do they contribute to cleaner, more sustainable public transportation?
Electric buses are powered by electric motors and batteries instead of traditional diesel engines. They are charged using electricity from external sources like charging stations, making them an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional buses. By producing zero emissions, electric buses help reduce air pollution, making them ideal for urban areas aiming to improve air quality and reduce their carbon footprint. They also contribute to quieter city environments, as they operate much more quietly than diesel buses, improving the overall passenger experience and reducing noise pollution.
In addition to their environmental benefits, electric buses offer long-term cost savings. Though they require a higher initial investment, they are more energy-efficient and have lower operating and maintenance costs over time.
