Marital discord is more common in nuclear families in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Domestic disputes are predominantly seen in nuclear families in Hyderabad, according to Telangana Women and Child Safety wing DGP Shikha Goel.
She said 70% of family dispute cases originate from nuclear families, while 42% of conflicts occur within the first 0-5 years of marriage.
To address these issues, the Telangana Police Women's Safety Department established the Center for Development and Empowerment of Women (CDEW), where 42% of domestic violence cases were resolved.
The CDEW operates 27 counselling centers across Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda Police Commissionerates. These centres have received 9,000 cases this year. These centers aim to mediate and reconcile disputes, offering support to couples and families.
Through counseling and mediation, the CDEW has successfully resolved numerous domestic violence cases, benefiting an estimated 8,200 families across the state, she added.
The primary causes of domestic violence cases include alcoholism (63.2%), economic issues (50%) and extramarital affairs (33%). Moreover, 22% of women are victims of repeated domestic violence. Financial problems are more common in families where domestic violence cases are reported. In half of the cases registered, the family incomes ranged from ₹11,000 to ₹30,000 or more.
