Hyderabad: Folk singer and TV presenter Mangli has issued a clarification following police action at her recent birthday celebration held at a private resort in Chevella. Responding to the allegations, she said the event was a private gathering involving only family members and close acquaintances.

Refuting claims of drug use, Mangli said no narcotics were consumed at the party. She explained that the individual who tested positive for drug use had allegedly taken the substance elsewhere prior to attending the event. According to her, police conducted tests during the raid but found no evidence of drug activity at the venue.

Mangli also addressed the issue of official permissions, stating she was not aware that prior approval was required for using a sound system or serving liquor at a private function. She explained that only Indian liquor was served and denied any intention to violate regulations. She said the lapse was purely due to lack of information and insisted it was a non-commercial, family-only celebration. The singer added that she would not knowingly break the law.

The party, held at Tripura Resort in Ranga Reddy district, drew police attention due to alleged procedural violations. During a late-night raid, police found a man identified as Damodar in possession of ganja. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine if others at the event were involved in drug use.

Chevella police have registered a case against Mangli for organizing the event without police permission and for serving alcohol without a valid excise license. The general manager of the resort has also been booked for allowing the event without necessary approvals. DJ equipment was seized for being operated without a sound system license.

Mangli, whose full name is Satyavathi Rathod, is known for her performances of Telugu folk songs and appearances on regional television. She hails from the Banjara community in Gooty, Anantapur district, and holds a diploma in Carnatic music from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati. The investigation remains ongoing.
