Hyderabad: MRPS leader Manda Krishna Madiga had submitted a petition urging Telangana Information Technology (IT) and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu to immediately cancel recent government land allotments in Gachibowli. He requests that the Telangana Leather Industry Promotion Corporation (TLIPC) land be utilized to create employment opportunities for the Madiga community.

The appeal specifically targets two government orders. The first, GO 137, dated August 18, 2025, leases 3.21 acres of land for a petrol bunk to Indian Oil Corporation Limited for a period of 33 years. The second, announced on August 12, 2025, allocates 5.16 acres for the construction of a Unity Mall. Manda Krishna Madiga founder of Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi(MRPS) stated these decisions will cause injustice to the Madigas.”

Key demands for Corporation revival

The petition calls for transparency in the Unity Mall project, noting the change from a 6-storey plan to a 50-floor complex without provisions for leather products. It also urges the prompt revival of TGLIPC through the immediate appointment of a Chairman and Director.

The Madiga community leaders are also pressing for a substantial Rs 12,000 crore budget to fuel the growth of mini leather industries throughout Telangana. They also call for a leadership overhaul at TGLIPC, demanding the removal of the current Managing Director, Niwasa Nayak, and the installation of a Group 1 officer from the Madiga community as Vice-Chairman and Managing Director.

Broader employment demands

The petition also calls for job opportunities and vocational training for Madiga artisans and unemployed youth on LIDCAP lands. It urges the government to enact legislation preventing future seizure of these lands and to establish two mega leather parks in Telangana.
