Mahesh Babu to answer ED’s questions today in connection with Sai Surya Developers’ fraud
Hyderabad: Actor Mahesh Babu is set to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning today, May 12, 2025. This follows an earlier notice issued on April 28, which he had requested to be rescheduled due to his shooting commitments. The ED granted the request and scheduled his appearance for today.
The questioning is related to an ongoing investigation into an alleged money laundering case involving Mahesh Babu’s endorsement of projects by Sai Surya Developers and the Surana Group, companies accused of defrauding property buyers.
The ED's investigation focuses on Mahesh Babu’s involvement in promoting Sai Surya Developers’ ventures for which he was paid Rs 5.9 crore. Of this amount, Rs 3.4 crore was transferred via cheque, and Rs 2.5 crore was reportedly paid in cash. Investigators are looking into whether the cash payment is linked to laundered funds.
The probe is based on complaints filed against Narendra Surana, director of Bhagyanagar Properties Ltd., and K Sathish Chandra Gupta, owner of Sai Surya Developers. The two are accused of illegally collecting large sums from buyers by offering plots in unauthorized layouts and selling the same plots to multiple individuals.
While Mahesh Babu is not believed to be directly involved in the fraudulent activities, the ED is examining the financial transactions tied to his promotional work. In a search conducted on April 16, the ED recovered documents revealing suspicious financial dealings amounting to over Rs 100 crore linked to the companies. The ED is also preparing to seize properties acquired through these alleged illegal activities. The investigation includes various individuals connected to the promotional campaigns of the companies.
