Jubilee Hills MLA Maganti Gopinath critical, admitted to AIG Hospitals
Hyderabad: Maganti Gopinath, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA representing Jubilee Hills, has been hospitalised after suffering a heart attack at his residence on Thursday afternoon, June 5, 2025. He was rushed to AIG Hospitals in Gachibowli by family members and is currently in critical condition.
Hospital sources confirmed that Gopinath, 61, has been placed on a ventilator and is under 48-hour observation. Doctors said he is responding to treatment, though his condition remains serious. Gopinath was already undergoing treatment for kidney-related complications and had recently undergone surgery. His health reportedly deteriorated earlier today, leading to the emergency admission.
Senior BRS leader and Siddipet MLA Harish Rao, along with several party members, visited the hospital following news of Gopinath’s condition.
Gopinath began his political career in 1983 with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), inspired by former chief minister N. T. Rama Rao. He led the party’s youth wing, Telugu Yuvatha, from 1985 to 1992. He also served as Director of the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (1987–1989) and was a member of the District Consumer Forum (1989–1993).
He was first elected as MLA from Jubilee Hills in 2014 as a TDP candidate, defeating AIMIM’s V. Naveen Reddy by 9,242 votes. He later joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (now BRS) and won the 2018 election against Congress candidate P. Vishnuvardhan Reddy by 16,004 votes.
In the 2023 Assembly elections, Gopinath secured a third consecutive win from Jubilee Hills, defeating former Indian cricket captain and Congress candidate Mohammed Azharuddin by a margin of 16,337 votes. Born on June 2, 1963, in Hyderguda, Hyderabad, Gopinath completed his education from Osmania University-affiliated institutions. He is married to Sunitha and has three children, a son, M. Vatsalyanath, and two daughters, Akshara Nag and Disira. Further updates on his health are awaited.
