Three burnt alive in lorry collision on National Highway in Mahabubabad

Hyderabad: Three people, including two drivers and a cleaner, were burnt alive in a fire that broke out after a head-on collision between two lorries on National Highway 563 at Yellampet in Maripeda mandal, Mahabubabad district, in the early hours of Friday, July 4, 2025.

It was learnt that the impact of the collision crushed the engine cabins of both vehicles, trapping the victims inside. A truck travelling from Vijayawada to Gujarat collided with another headed towards Andhra Pradesh from Warangal.

Firefighters and police reached the spot and launched rescue operations. One more person sustained serious injuries and was shifted to a nearby hospital, where his condition is reported to be critical. Further details are awaited.

On July 3, a fire broke out at a Café Coffee Day outlet located in the Krish Inn Hotel premises near SR Nagar Traffic Police Station in Hyderabad. The blaze reportedly started in the kitchen area, and some people were feared trapped on the upper floor. Firefighters responded and rescue efforts were launched immediately.

Also on July 3, a car caught fire at a BPCL fuel station near Mailardevpally Police Station shortly after refuelling. The staff at the station acted quickly to douse the flames and prevent a major mishap. No casualties were reported.

In another incident, a refrigerator explosion early Thursday morning sparked a fire at a house in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Sanathnagar. Residents reported hearing a loud blast followed by smoke and flames. Firefighters and HYDRAA Disaster Response Force teams managed to control the fire. No injuries were reported. Officials suspect a compressor blast caused the fire, and an investigation is underway.

Earlier, on June 30, a major explosion at the Sigachi chemical factory in the Pashamylaram industrial area of Sangareddy district resulted in the deaths of 40 workers. The blast triggered a fire that engulfed the building and threw some workers nearly 100 metres from the site.

Several victims were charred beyond recognition. DNA fingerprinting is being used to identify the bodies. Thirty-five injured workers are receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. A total of 143 people were present at the time of the incident. Post-mortem examinations are being conducted at Patancheru Area Hospital with a team of senior forensic doctors. Ten ambulances were used to transport the bodies.
