Hyderabad: Residents of several areas in Hyderabad, including Kukatpally and Masab Tank, have raised serious concerns over the rising number of aggressive stray dogs. The issue was brought to public attention through social media complaints, urging the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to take swift action to prevent further incidents.

The problem was first highlighted by Srinu Maridu (@sriinivasmahi) on X (formerly Twitter), who appealed to GHMC officials to address the growing threat near Bachpan Play and Academic Heights School in Ramaiah Nagar, Kukatpally. In his post, he requested the immediate dispatch of the dog-catching team. The GHMC responded promptly, informing that the local veterinary team had been alerted to address the situation.

Similarly, another resident, Haroon Seva (@Haroonseva), reported aggressive stray dogs near Nasheman Hotel, Masab Tank, warning that children and pedestrians were at risk. GHMC confirmed that the veterinary team was notified and that the relevant authorities had been directed to take necessary action.

Amid a rise in dog bite incidents and fatalities in the past year, GHMC has encouraged residents to report stray dog infestations. The civic body has assured prompt deployment of capture and sterilization teams and provided helpline numbers, 040-21111111 and 040-232253975, for immediate assistance.

Recent incidents highlight the urgency of the situation. In Ramnagar Colony, Ghatkesar, a four-year-old boy was nearly attacked by a pack of stray dogs but was rescued by his father. In Isnapur, Patancheru, a six-year-old boy named Vishal died after being mauled by three stray dogs near a dump yard; his parents, migrant workers from Bihar, witnessed the attack.

In another case, a woman in Chitrapuri Colony, Manikonda, was attacked by multiple stray dogs during a morning walk but managed to defend herself, as seen in CCTV footage. Residents continue to press for stronger and faster interventions by GHMC to control the stray dog population and ensure public safety.
