KTR moves Supreme Court as High Court refuses to quash petition
Hyderabad: BRS working president and former Municipal Administration minister KT Rama Rao (KTR) has challenged the Telangana High Court’s verdict on his quash petition in the Supreme Court.
He moved the apex court after the High Court refused to quash a first information report (FIR) filed against him by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) against him in connection with the alleged financial irregularities in the conduct of Formula-E car race in Hyderabad.
KTR’s counsel Mohit Rao filed the petition in the Supreme Court registry and the petition is expected to come up for hearing in a couple of days.
“The High Court has just said that the investigation may go on. Nothing more, nothing less. The High Court has not passed any verdict against me,” KTR told PTI soon after the verdict.
Earlier, a single-judge bench of Justice K Lakshman dismissed the former minister’s quash petition and also lifted the arrest protection for the BRS leader. Notably, the High Court had earlier passed an interim order which had given protection to him from arrest during the hearing of the quash petition.
The allegations show that the former minister did not seek any approval from the state cabinet or the finance department before ordering the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) to release funds to a foreign company, the court observed.
Meanwhile, KTR said he respected the judiciary and vowed to pursue every legal avenue to fight the case.
“Mark my words, our comeback will be stronger than this setback. Your lies won't shatter me. Your words won't diminish me. Your actions won't obscure my vision. This cacophony won't silence me. Today's obstacles will give way to tomorrow's triumph. The truth will shine brighter with time,” KTR tweeted.
Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned KTR to appear for questioning on January 16, 2025 in connection with the ongoing investigation in the Formula E race case.
Senior IAS officer Arvind Kumar is scheduled to appear on January 9, 2025, while former Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) chief engineer B.L.N. Reddy has been summoned for January 8, 2025, in connection with the investigation.
The investigation centers around a Rs. 55 crore transfer from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) to Formula E Operations Limited (FEO) without necessary approvals, despite the original agreement only requiring the government to provide infrastructure for the race.
