Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has criticized the Congress government’s budget 2025-26, calling it a betrayal of Telangana’s people. He described the budget as reflecting the incompetence and failure of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's administration, accusing the government of ignoring the needs of the state's people.

KTR stated that Congress, instead of focusing on fulfilling promises made to the people of Telangana, is more focused on sending money to Delhi. He called the budget a “40% commission scam,” claiming it prioritizes political greed over public welfare. The BRS leader vowed that his party would strongly oppose what he termed an "anti-people" budget.

KTR also pointed out the failure of Congress's six promises made to the people within the first 100 days. He claimed that after Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka’s speech, it became clear that the guarantees were empty promises, including Rs 2,500 per month for women under the Mahalakshmi scheme, Rs 4,000 pensions for the elderly, and gold for the women, none of which were mentioned in the budget.

The budget’s financial mismanagement also drew KTR’s ire. He compared the Rs 4.17 lakh crore borrowed by the BRS government over ten years to the Rs 1.6 lakh crore amassed by Congress in just one year, without any new projects or schemes. KTR mocked the Congress’s claim of a “trillion-dollar economy,” saying it had no understanding of the concept and was instead heading toward a trillion-dollar debt. He further criticized Revanth Reddy's policies, which he claimed led to a Rs 73,000 crore drop in state revenue.

KTR accused the Congress of backtracking on promises to various sections of society. He pointed out the absence of an Auto Drivers’ Welfare Board in the budget, despite over 100 auto drivers committing suicide due to the free bus scheme. He also highlighted the unfulfilled promises made by Rahul Gandhi regarding job creation and the welfare of gig workers like Swiggy and Zomato employees. KTR criticized the reduction in funds for weavers, from Rs 1,200 crore under the BRS to Rs 370 crore under Congress, and condemned the failure to address issues such as pending Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees and incomplete farm loan waivers.

The BRS leader also raised concerns about marginalized communities being ignored in the budget. He said that the caste census underrepresented BCs, and promises such as providing sheep for Yadavs and 25% reservation for Gouds in wine shops were not fulfilled. Additionally, the scheme for Dalits under Ambedkar Abhaya Hastam was ignored.

KTR criticized the state of Hyderabad, calling it a "ruined city" under Revanth Reddy’s municipal oversight, with pending works piling up. He also pointed out the lack of basic medicines in government hospitals and the failure of Gurukuls, which have seen the death of 83 students.

The BRS leader accused the Congress of prioritizing corruption over development, alleging that they were channeling funds to Delhi, with the commission rate rising from 20% to 40%. KTR claimed that Rs 6,000 crore would be distributed to Congress workers, warning that the people of Telangana would not tolerate the state’s wealth being handed over to party members.

KTR condemned the government's focus on beauty contests while farmers continue to suffer, and demanded that Congress stop sending money to Delhi and focus on alleviating the distress of farmers. He called the budget an attempt to loot public money and ignore the real needs of Telangana’s people.

The BRS, he said, would remain firm in its opposition to a budget that, in his view, undermines development and welfare in the state. He concluded by holding Congress responsible for the decline in Telangana's economy and vowed that his party would fight against it.
