KTR, Harish Rao put under house arrest, Kaushik Reddy granted bail

On Tuesday morning, several BRS leaders, including working president KT Rama Rao and MLA T Harish Rao, were placed under house arrest in Hyderabad. This action followed the arrest of Huzurabad MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy by Karimnagar police on Monday evening. Kaushik Reddy's arrest stemmed from a case registered against him for misbehaving with Jagtial MLA Dr Sanjay Kumar, who had defected from BRS to Congress last year. The BRS leaders had protested outside the Karimnagar police station demanding the MLA's whereabouts after his arrest, leading to several other party workers being detained. The house arrest of prominent BRS leaders was a preemptive measure by the police, who feared further unrest and potential trouble following Kaushik Reddy's arrest. The situation was further heightened by the fact that Kaushik Reddy was not taken to the Karimnagar police station even after several hours of his arrest, raising concerns among BRS supporters.

The Hyderabad police action comes after the BRS leaders and activists staged a sit-in outside the Karimnagar police station on Monday night and demanded the police to disclose where Kaushik Reddy was taken by the police.

The BRS MLA was arrested in Jubilee Hills at around 7.30 pm by the police and he was not shifted to the Karimnagar police station even after 11 pm. The worried party workers started gathering in front of the police station and demanded party MLAโ€™s whereabouts. When the police refused to share details, they resorted to sloganeering against the Congress-led Telangana government. The police took BRS town president Challa Harishankar, Raghuveer Singh and a few others into custody as they attempted to stage a dharna outside the police station.

Earlier, Kaushik Reddy participated in a review meeting held at the Karimnagar collectorate held to review the development works in the united Karimnagar district on Sunday. The review meeting witnessed a heated exchange between BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy and Jagtial MLA Dr. Sanjay Kumar over the latterโ€™s political affiliation as he defected from the BRS to the Congress last year.
