Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Taking to social media platform X, Rama Rao extended a personal apology to Magee, saying, “You are a very strong woman, Milla Magee, and I am truly sorry you had to go through this in our State of Telangana.” He praised her courage for speaking out on a global stage, calling it a brave act to call out misogyny, especially at an international event.

Magee, who withdrew from the Miss World competition citing "personal reasons," later revealed in an interview with The Sun that she felt exploited and morally conflicted due to the treatment meted out to contestants. She described her experience as demeaning and lacking basic respect.

Rama Rao, acknowledging her claims, emphasized that Telangana has a long-standing tradition of honoring and empowering women. He referenced iconic women from the state’s history, such as Rani Rudrama Devi and Chityala Ailamma, as symbols of strength and leadership. “What you went through does not reflect the true spirit of our people,” he added.

As a father to a daughter himself, the BRS leader expressed deep concern over the psychological and emotional toll such incidents take on women. He also criticized any attempts to shift blame onto the victim, condemning the act of gaslighting survivors. Stressing the importance of accountability, he demanded a full and impartial investigation into the allegations.

The incident has sparked debate about the treatment of women in public events and the need for stricter protocols to ensure their dignity and safety. Rama Rao’s remarks are among the first high-profile political reactions, adding pressure on authorities to address the issue transparently.
