HYDERABAD: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao on Monday accused the Congress government of “betraying the people of Telangana,” asserting that the ruling party would face rejection in the upcoming elections.

KTR says Congress failed to fulfil promises in 22 months

Rama Rao questioned how the Congress could seek votes again when, according to him, it had failed to keep even one of its poll promises. “What face does the Congress have to seek votes from people after deceiving them for 22 months in power?” he said, adding that discontent against the government was growing among all sections.

He criticised the hike in Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) fares and alleged that the government was “paving the way for privatisation” under the pretext of introducing electric buses. “They gave free rides for wives, but doubled the fare for husbands and raised charges for children’s passes. This is the real face of Congress’s betrayal,” he said.

‘Congress burdening Hyderabad’s middle class’

Mocking Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s “innovative thinking,” KTR said the move to induct EV buses was a ploy to burden Hyderabad’s middle-class commuters. “Ticket fares have been raised only within the city. Why can’t the corporation itself purchase and operate these buses?” he asked.

Rama Rao recalled that Hyderabad had voted entirely for BRS in the last Assembly elections. “In 22 months, Congress hasn’t built new roads or maintained existing ones,” he said.

BRS leader accuses Congress of neglecting citizens’ welfare

KTR alleged that the Congress had let down auto drivers, unemployed youth and women. “Over 1.2 lakh auto drivers in the city will tell you how their livelihoods have been hit. Promises of two lakh jobs, ₹2,500 per month for women, and ₹4,000 pensions for seniors—all have been broken,” he said.

On the Jubilee Hills cemetery controversy, he said the BRS government had already allotted 125 acres each for Muslim and Christian cemeteries in 2022 through a government order. He accused the Congress of trying to claim credit for merely offering 2,500 sq. yards of disputed land, allegedly claimed by the Army.

He further criticised the 50% hike in festival-time bus ticket fares, comparing it with the previous KCR government’s schemes such as Bathukamma sarees, Ramzan gifts and Christmas kits. “Now Revanth Reddy gives people the ‘gift’ of hiked ticket fares,” he remarked.

Rama Rao concluded that the “anger of common and middle-class citizens will be reflected at the ballot box.”
