Ramanthapur Tragedy: 5 dead after electrocution at Krishna Janmashtami procession
Hyderabad: Five people died, and four others were critically injured after an electric shock incident during the Sri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations in Ramanthapur late on Sunday night. The tragedy reportedly occurred when a chariot carrying the idol of Lord Krishna came into contact with live wires during a Sri Krishna shobha yatra procession. Uppal Police reached the spot and shifted the dead, and further investigation is underway.
According to the Uppal police, the deceased have been identified as Srikrishna (21), Srikanth Reddy (35), Suresh (34), Rudravikas (39), and Rajendra Reddy (45). The accident happened during the final stage of the Shobha Yatra in Gokule Nagar, Uppal Police Station limits. Ten people were pushing the chariot when the overhead electric wires touched it, resulting in the electrocution, said the police.
After receiving the information, Uppal Police rushed to the scene and shifted the bodies to Gandhi Mortuary from a private hospital in Pragathinagar, Ramanthapur. Among the injured, one is being treated at a private hospital in Ramanthapur, another has been moved to a private hospital in Nampally, and two others are receiving local treatment.
