HYDERABAD: The six-lane railway underpass (RUB) built between Kukatpally Housing Board (KPHB) and Hitec City to ensure traffic-free movement has deteriorated within four years of construction. Built under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP), the RUB has been neglected, with water leakage and damaged roads now troubling motorists.

Initially, the structure was in good condition. But since the beginning of this year, water has been leaking through the retaining walls of the bridge. Currently, three points under the RUB resemble stagnant pools, leaving the approach roads wet and slippery. Local residents fear that speeding vehicles could skid and lose control.

Exposed iron rods, damaged roads pose risk to motorists

Micro-leakages across several sections have caused cracks and stains on the walls, giving the bridge a worn-out appearance. Iron rods have also surfaced on the road beneath, creating hazards for tyres. Residents pointed out that one wrong move at high speed on this elevated stretch could cause accidents.

Even the rumble strips installed for speed control have been destroyed. A year ago, local media highlighted the risks from exposed iron and poor road quality, but officials did not act.

Residents have now urged the authorities to carry out immediate repairs. “First, we will inspect the RUB on site with staff and identify the problems. Later, repairs will be taken up. We will also focus on reducing difficulties for motorists,” officials said.
