Konda Surekha faces court rebuke in KTR's Rs.100 crore defamation case
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad City Civil Court has granted a significant ruling in a Rs 100-crore defamation case filed by K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), the working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), against Konda Surekha, the Minister for Forest and Environment and Member of the Telangana Legislative Assembly from Warangal East.
The court has instructed Konda Surekha to refrain from making any controversial comments about KTR in the future. Additionally, the court mandated the removal of her previous comments from all media platforms, including social media, YouTube, Facebook, and Google.
This case marks a notable instance in which a minister has faced serious repercussions from a higher court regarding a defamation claim. The court described Surekha's comments as “highly objectionable” and expressed surprise that a responsible minister would make such remarks.
The court highlighted the need to eliminate all articles and videos related to Konda Surekha's comments from the public domain, citing potential negative impacts on society. Media houses that aired or published her remarks have also been ordered to remove all related content.
KTR initiated this legal action following controversial statements made by Surekha during a recent media briefing. The defamation petition was filed in the court on October 10, 2024.
Court issued an injunction restraining Minister Konda Surekha from creating or publishing defamatory content against KTR.
She is directed to remove any defamatory articles, videos, and posts uploaded online that are mentioned in the petition.
