Minister Konda Surekha apologises to actress but stands firm against politician

Hyderabad: Konda Surekha, the Minister for Forest and Environment and Member of the Telangana Legislative Assembly from Warangal East, has issued a response on October 3, 2024, regarding her recent controversial comments involving a politician and Tollywood actors.

In a statement on 'X' (formerly Twitter) on October 2, Surekha clarified, “The purpose of my remarks is to question a leader's contemptuous attitude towards women and not to hurt sentiments. Your self-empowerment is something I admire.” She added, “If you or your fans are upset by my comments, I unconditionally withdraw them. Don't feel alienated.”

Despite her withdrawal of comments regarding the actress, Surekha maintained her position regarding the politician, stating, “I won’t take my words back and he should apologise to me. I will not back down on this issue, as everything started from his actions.”

The politician demanded an immediate retraction of Surekha’s statements, an unconditional public apology, and a commitment to refrain from further defamatory actions. The notice warned that failure to comply within 24 hours could result in both civil and criminal legal actions against her.

In support of the actress, prominent celebrities from the film industry, including Mega Star Chiranjeevi, Allu Arjun, Jr. NTR, and Nani, have united in declaring that Surekha’s comments are unacceptable and intolerable.
