Kokapet traffic woes: Residents demand flyover at My Home Avatar Junction
Hyderabad: Increasing traffic congestion at My Home Avatar Junction in Kokapet has prompted citizens to call for immediate infrastructure improvements. Commuters are facing daily delays during peak hours, with many pointing to the rapid development in the area as a key cause.
The issue was highlighted on social media by the handle @hyderabadprop on 'X' (formerly Twitter), stating, “Urgent Infrastructure Need at My Home Avatar Junction. We urgently need a flyover or underpass. With rapidly growing traffic due to projects like Neopolis, Golden Mile, and several high-rise developments, this junction has become a choke point during peak hours.”
The post highlighted that thousands of vehicles cross the junction daily and urged the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), and the Telangana government to take immediate action under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP).
Public Opinion Split on Solutions
While many support the construction of a flyover, others argue that it will not solve the core issue. One user said, “A flyover will fix nothing.” Another, named Santhosh, commented, “Traffic increased after the signal was installed at the junction. The broken cycle track before the Gachibowli-ORR toll and a poorly connected road near Ratan Dheep Supermarket have worsened the situation. There’s no proper planning.”
Another user, VakilSaab, wrote, “Flyovers provide only temporary relief. Hyderabad needs a robust public transport system to handle the increasing number of vehicles. Expand the metro, add more coaches, reduce intervals, and launch an electric bus rapid transit system.”
Manish Chitre added, “No amount of flyovers will help. We need a four-lane rapid transit metro grid system, like Tokyo. That’s the only permanent solution.” Rajnikant Kumar said, “A flyover along with a metro extension could work. I voted for the current government, but they scrapped the Airport Metro project. That was a setback.”

Viral Video Highlights Widespread Congestion
A video showing traffic snarls in West Hyderabad also went viral, captioned, “Another day, another traffic jam. Roads are handling double the intended load. We need road widening, flyovers, synchronized signals, metro expansion, alternate routes, and improved traffic policing. Smart city needs smart traffic solutions and not patchwork.”
With traffic bottlenecks growing from Madhapur to Gachibowli, Kokapet, and Narsingi, citizens are urging authorities to prioritize long-term infrastructure planning to match Hyderabad’s rapid urban growth.
