HYDERABAD: The Telugu film Kishkindhapuri, featuring Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas in the lead role, has become the latest victim of online piracy. Within two days of its theatrical release, the pirated versions of the film surfaced on several unauthorised websites, prompting its producer to approach the police.

On September 17 at 15.30 IST, the Cyber Crime police station at Basheerbagh received a written complaint from producer Sahu Garapati, 43, who runs Shine Screens (India) LLP. He stated that the movie, released in theatres on September 12, was illegally copied and uploaded in high-quality print by September 14.

In his complaint addressed to the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Garapati said the piracy came as a “shock and disappointment” to the production house. He alleged that the entire film was made available across websites and circulated on social media without any authorisation from the rights holders.

“This act of piracy not only violates the Copyright Act, 1957, but also causes significant financial losses to the film’s creators, distributors, and the entertainment industry as a whole,” the complaint read.

Garapati also attached links to websites, including TamilMV, Movierulz and iBomma, where the movie was allegedly uploaded. He requested the authorities to block the platforms, trace individuals involved, and take legal action to prevent further circulation of pirated copies.

The complaint underlined the impact of piracy on the film industry, which continues to struggle with illegal distribution despite stricter enforcement measures in recent years. Producers argue that piracy discourages investments, affects theatrical collections, and undermines the efforts of those working in cinema.

Garapati urged the police to act with urgency and keep the production house informed of progress in the investigation. He emphasised that taking strong action would serve as a deterrent to others and protect intellectual property rights.

Police officials have acknowledged the complaint and said further inquiry is underway.
