20-Year Jail Term for Rape, 10-Year Term for Kidnap in Alwal Case
The Fast Track Special Court for Expeditious Trial and Disposal of Rape and POCSO Act Cases at Medchal has sentenced accused Addala Nani to rigorous imprisonment of 20 years with a fine of ₹10,000 for rape, and an additional 10 years with a fine of ₹10,000 for kidnap. The court also directed payment of ₹2,00,000 compensation to the victim.
Case background and investigation
The case (Cr. No.455/2020, SC No.136/2022) was registered at Alwal Police Station on 2 September 2020 following a complaint by the victim’s grandfather after the minor girl went missing. Investigation revealed that accused Addala Nani, a resident of Chandrapuram Colony, Alwal, befriended the victim and took her to an isolated place where he repeatedly assaulted her.
Initially booked under Section 363 IPC, the case was later altered to Sections 366(A), 376(2)(n) IPC, and Section 5(l) r/w 6 of the POCSO Act, 2012. The accused was arrested and remanded to judicial custody. The investigation was conducted by Inspector P. Yadagiri and ACP VVS Ramalinga Raju, who filed the charge sheet before the court.
On completion of the trial, Judge Amaravati pronounced the verdict, awarding the above sentences and compensation.
