Ropeway, Haritha Hotels, and Bhadrachalam Temple planned for major upgrades in Khammam tourism revamp
Hyderabad: Telangana Minister for Agriculture, Marketing, Horticulture, and Handloom Textiles, Tummala Nageshwar Rao, on Monday, July 28, 2025, has directed officials to focus on developing historical sites and strengthening the tourism sector in the united Khammam district.
On Monday, a review meeting was held at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar State Secretariat, attended by State Minister for Tourism, Prohibition, and Excise, Jupally Krishna Rao, Managing Director of Tourism Corporation, Valluri Kranti, and General Manager, Upender Reddy.
The ministers discussed plans to enhance eco-tourism and temple tourism in the district. Key developments include the proposal for a Haritha Hotel at Kothagudem, improvements to the Palleru Reservoir, Buddhist Stupa, Parnashala, and Bhadrachalam Temple, as well as upgrades to the Kinnerasani Project and Vaira Reservoir.
Other proposed initiatives include creating an Urban Park at Velugumattla, a ropeway at Khammam Fort, and another Haritha Hotel in Khammam town. The ministers explained the importance of utilizing the district’s historical monuments, temples, and scenic locations to make them more accessible to the public.
They stressed that the renowned Bhadrachalam Rama Temple, a key pilgrimage site, should be developed further with better facilities for visitors. To facilitate this, the Tourism Department and relevant Corporations were advised to collaborate and prepare proposals for immediate approval of necessary funds, either through the State Government or Public-Private Partnerships.
The officials were also instructed to visit field-level sites to prepare a detailed action plan for the district’s tourism development. The Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy, is expected to visit Khammam next month, which will provide an opportunity to review the tourism-related sites.
In addition, efforts to promote eco-tourism in the 500-acre forest area near Khammam town will be fast-tracked. The proposal for a new Haritha Hotel in Khammam town and the operationalization of the existing Haritha Hotel in Kothagudem were also prioritized.
