KCR to appear before Kaleshwaram Inquiry Commission today
Hyderabad: Former Telangana Chief Minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) chief K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) is set to appear before the Kaleshwaram Inquiry Commission today, June 11, at 11:30 AM at the BRK Bhavan. A heavy police deployment is in place as large numbers of party workers gather in support.
The Commission, headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice P.C. Ghose, is probing alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. The inquiry was launched in March 2024 after structural issues emerged at the Medigadda barrage and seepage was reported at the Annaram and Sundilla barrages.
KCR’s appearance follows the testimonies of former Finance Minister Etela Rajender on June 6 and former Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao on June 9. KCR was originally scheduled to appear on June 5 but requested a rescheduling.
Ahead of today’s hearing, KCR held detailed discussions with senior BRS leaders on the subjects raised during Harish Rao’s cross-examination. Only nine individuals have been granted permission to accompany him to the closed-door proceedings. They include MLAs, an MP, and a retired IPS officer.
The Commission has already questioned officials from various departments and construction firms. Several senior engineers reportedly stated that major project decisions were taken in KCR’s presence and executed under his direction. These statements led to the summons issued to KCR, Harish Rao, and Etela Rajender. The Commission is expected to conclude its proceedings this month and submit its final report to the state government.
