HYDERABAD: Telangana Jagruthi president K Kavitha said she has no national party behind her and has dedicated 20 years to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

Kavitha joins Bathukamma events from Chintamadaka to London

Speaking at Bathukamma celebrations organised by Jagruthi’s UK chapter in London, Kavitha said she had missed the festival last year due to “unfortunate circumstances” but this time joined events from her village Chintamadaka to London, including Srirampur, Hyderabad, Qatar and Malta.

She said she faced “humiliation and conspiracies” within the BRS but remained silent to prevent splits. “From my defeat to the party’s loss in the assembly elections, I endured many struggles for the sake of the party,” she told NRIs. Kavitha said she resigned from both the Legislative Council and BRS after being expelled. “If the party doesn’t want me, I too will reject the posts it gave me,” she said. She alleged she was removed as honorary president of the Singareni Collieries union while abroad.

On her political future, she ruled out joining national parties. “Congress merged Telangana with Andhra Pradesh and was responsible for sacrifices of 369 people earlier and 1,200 more during the movement. BJP’s DNA doesn’t suit me,” she said.

Jagruti will be role model for nation, not political party yet

Kavitha added she wants to strengthen Jagruthi as a social organisation and make it a role model. “If people demand, we will start a party when the time comes,” she said. She recalled that jail life gave her insight into problems faced by common people, especially women.

She said she led the fight for women’s reservation and is now working for backward class reservations. With three-and-a-half years left for elections, she said she would take steps that benefit people.
