HYDERABAD: Former MP Kavitha on Friday declared that she has completely severed ties with the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). She said she would once again meet the Legislative Council chairman to request approval of her resignation as MLC.

Kavitha clarified that she no longer has any association with the pink party. “There is no question of continuing with BRS,” she told reporters.

The focus now is on her next move. Will she float a new political party? Will she convert her Jagriti organisation into a party? Or will she continue political activities under the Jagriti banner for some more time?

As of now, Kavitha does not appear to have taken a final decision on launching a party. Sources indicated she may consider transforming Jagriti into a political outfit a few years later, similar to how the Telangana Rashtra Samithi was formed.

Recently, Kavitha recalled that her father K Chandrasekhar Rao had consulted intellectuals and Telangana activists before floating TRS. She said she too would hold wide consultations before making any announcement.

Upcoming polls such as the Jubilee Hills by-election, local body polls, and later the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections are seen as critical tests. If developments involving MLAs switching parties lead to disqualifications, multiple bypolls could also be on the cards.

Observers note that prolonged delay in announcing a new party may test the patience of those currently rallying around her under the Jagriti platform.
