This incident follows a series of recent fire accidents across the city. On Tuesday night, May 20, a fire broke out on the Musi Riverbed near the MGBS Metro Station. Officials believe the blaze began in dry vegetation and may have been sparked by a discarded cigarette. Firefighters arrived promptly and controlled the fire within 30 minutes. No injuries were reported.

Earlier the same day, a fire occurred at a footwear warehouse in Boyiguda, Chandrayangutta. The fire started around noon on the second floor of a building. Dense smoke forced residents and nearby families to evacuate. Fire and police teams from Chatrinaka responded with two fire engines and extinguished the flames. There were no injuries.

In a more serious incident on the morning of May 18, a devastating fire at Gulzar Houz Chowrasta near Charminar resulted in the deaths of 17 people. The fire began on the ground floor of a G+2 building and spread rapidly, trapping residents on the upper floors.

The Telangana State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Fire Department were alerted at 6:16 a.m. Firefighters from several stations, including Moghalpura, High Court, Gowliguda, and Salarjung, responded with 12 firefighting units, a hydraulic platform, and an advanced firefighting robot.

The victims included elderly people, parents, and young children. The deceased were identified as Prahlad (70), Munni (70), Rajendar Modi (65), Sumitra (60), Hamey (7), Abhishek (31), Sheetal (35), Priyansh (4), Iraaj (2), Arushi (3), Rishabh (4), Pratham (1.5), Anuyan (3), Varsha (35), Pankaj (36), Rajini (32), and Iddu (4).

Rescue efforts were hindered by narrow access roads and dense construction in the Old City. A team of 17 officers and 70 personnel worked for over two hours to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighboring structures.
