Good Governance Forum calls on GHMC for silt clearing and drain repairs in Karwan
Hyderabad: The Good Governance Forum (GGF) Karwan has raised concerns about the deteriorating state of stormwater drains across various localities in the Karwan Constituency. In a formal representation submitted to Anurag Jayanti, GHMC Zonal Commissioner for Khairatabad, the forum has requested urgent action on the silt clearing, repairs, and replacement of stormwater drains in the area.
Members of the forum highlighted the poor condition of stormwater drains in localities such as Karwan, Langer Houz, Golconda, Nanal Nagar, and Tolichowki. They pointed out that many drains are either clogged with silt, damaged, or have completely collapsed, causing frequent waterlogging and foul odors, especially during the monsoon season.
The forum expressed concerns about the risk to public health, given the inadequate drainage system in place.
The Good Governance Forum Karwan has called on GHMC to take the following actions, desilting all major and minor stormwater drains in the Karwan constituency, repairing damaged sections to restore proper drainage and prevent blockages, and replacing collapsed or outdated drains with modern RCC pipelines or reinforced systems.
Additionally, the forum has requested the establishment of regular maintenance schedules to ensure the long-term functionality of the drainage system.
The forum stressed that the issue must be addressed promptly, especially before the onset of the rainy season, to prevent flooding and health hazards for thousands of residents.
