JNTU Hyderabad MTech counselling starts with no admissions
Hyderabad: Counselling for sponsored category MTech seats at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) began on September 18 with no admissions on the opening day.
The admissions department had issued a notification on September 11 for 190 seats across various specialisation courses in affiliated engineering colleges. Counselling was scheduled from Thursday to Saturday. However, of the 60 seats allotted for the first day, not a single one was filled. Officials waited from 10am to 5pm without any candidates turning up.
Student and employee union representatives said the vacancies were a result of poor coordination among officials. After counselling for degree colleges in the state, seats were allocated to local candidates. For the remaining seats, the education department issued a special circular. But lack of clarity between university administrators and admissions staff reportedly led to confusion, leaving the seats unfilled.
Spot counselling for the remaining 130 seats in other departments will be conducted on Friday and Saturday, university officials said.
