Hyderabad : Telangana Government inked a pact with Google to establish India’s first Google Safety Engineering Centre (GSEC) at Hyderabad. With this Hyderabad is set to become a global capital for creating Cyber Security and Safety Engineering offerings for the globe.

The GSEC in Hyderabad would be the first-of-its-kind in the Asia Pacific(APAC) region, after Tokyo, and only the fifth in the world, with similar facilities in Dublin, Munich and Malaga.

GSEC is a specialized international cybersecurity hub vital for developing advanced security and online safety products for India. The center will focus on cutting-edge research, AI-driven security solutions, and creating a collaborative platform for leading experts and researchers. It aims to foster skill development, boost employment, and enhance cybersecurity capabilities in India.

A statement released by the Telangana government read, “Google, with its largest employee base in Hyderabad, is building its largest office outside its headquarters here,” read a statement released by Telangana government.

Speaking on the occasion,Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said,“We are proud that Google chose Hyderabad for the GSEC. This partnership shows Hyderabad’s status as a leading IT and innovation hub.”

Royal Hansen, CIO of Google, said, “We are super excited that Google is establishing the GSEC in Hyderabad, positioned to become the global capital for safety engineering, including cyber and digital security. With this partnership,Hyderabad can become a global center for security needs. The shared vision of excellence between Google and CM Revanth Reddy to make Hyderabad a global center promises more partnerships ahead.”

The GSEC was announced on October 3, 2024, at the Google for India 2024 Conclave, leading to a competition between states to secure this investment.

Further Google is set to establish a Cloud Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad, exploring multiple strategic partnerships with the Telangana government. The tech giant plans to develop India's first intelligent traffic management system using Google Maps and AI, transform Hyderabad into a smart city, revolutionize school education, create a Google Startup Hub, and support the Young India Skills University with focus on AI and Cyber Security skills.
