IMD Forecasts Rains Across Telangana Till June 26; Yellow Alert Issued
Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad has predicted continued rainfall across Telangana till June 26, issuing a yellow alert for multiple districts. Thunderstorms, gusty winds, and lightning are expected during this period, including in Hyderabad.
According to the IMD’s forecast, several districts will experience varying intensities of rain, ranging from light drizzles to moderate showers, particularly in the evening and night hours. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and squalls are likely to occur across the state.
For Hyderabad, the department has predicted light rain or drizzle along with gusty winds through the forecast period. On Monday morning, the city recorded overcast skies and mild weather, suggesting the onset of the expected conditions. Although no city-specific warning has been issued so far, the broader yellow alert indicates potential moderate weather activity that may require caution.
Independent weather observer T. Balaji, known for tracking regional weather developments, has also forecasted scattered moderate rains in Telangana. In a social media update, he mentioned that a low-pressure area (LPA) is developing over the North Bay of Bengal, which could impact the weather in Telangana’s western, northern, and eastern districts. According to Balaji, “Hyderabad has good conditions for light to moderate rain spells from evening to midnight.”
He further noted that rainfall patterns may intensify slightly in some pockets depending on the LPA’s movement and strength, especially in the northern districts.
The IMD's yellow alert indicates weather conditions that may not be severe but still warrant awareness among residents, particularly those commuting or working outdoors. Residents are advised to monitor local updates and be prepared for possible traffic slowdowns, waterlogging, or localized power disruptions in case of thunderstorms.
The forecast comes at a time when many areas across Telangana are experiencing a delayed or uneven onset of monsoon activity. The current spell of rain could contribute positively to groundwater recharge and agricultural needs, especially in rain-fed regions.
While it remains uncertain how widespread or intense the rains will be, the forecast indicates a clear shift toward active monsoon conditions over the state.
