In a determined effort to enforce traffic regulations and enhance public safety, the Hyderabad City Police have launched a robust crackdown on vehicles operating without valid or clearly visible registration number plates. Over the past 34 days, authorities in the West Zone have seized a total of 890 vehicles across eight key police jurisdictions, including Banjara Hills, Masab Tank, Jubilee Hills, Film Nagar, Panjagutta, Madhura Nagar, SR Nagar, and Borabanda.

According to official reports, the vast majority of the seized vehicles — 880 in total — were two-wheelers, while the remaining 10 were three-wheelers. Police officials have cited increasing instances of vehicles either lacking proper number plates or bearing decorative or obscured plates, which are in direct violation of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules.

To tackle this issue, law enforcement personnel have been deployed at various strategic points to stop and inspect vehicles with non-compliant number plates. Upon interception, these vehicles are detained, and their owners are required to provide valid documents including driving licenses and proof of ownership. The vehicles are only released after the violators appear in court, pay prescribed penalties, and install proper number plates as mandated by law.

In addition to vehicle seizure, repeat offenders are now facing stricter consequences. These include the risk of license suspension or even permanent cancellation in extreme cases. The Hyderabad Police have emphasized that such violations will not be taken lightly, especially considering the potential use of unregistered or misidentified vehicles in criminal activities.

Authorities are urging vehicle owners to adhere strictly to the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, which specify size, font, and visibility standards for registration plates. The use of decorative designs, stickers, or fancy fonts that hinder plate legibility is strictly prohibited.

Citizens have also been encouraged to support the initiative by reporting any vehicles without proper number plates. They can send photos or videos to Hyderabad City Police via WhatsApp at 9490616555, or for complaints within the West Zone limits, contact 8712660400.

This initiative reflects the police department’s broader commitment to public safety and regulatory compliance, reinforcing the message that road safety begins with accountability.
