HYDRAA receives complaints over encroachments on Hyderabad’s lake beds & parks
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) received 63 complaints during a public meeting on Monday, March 10, 2025, raising concerns about the encroachment of old lake beds and other public lands.
According to the complaints, some individuals are reportedly creating passbook records in their names to claim ownership of land once designated as lake beds, converting these areas into agricultural fields. Several complaints also highlighted encroachments on roads and parks, with residents requesting immediate action to protect these spaces.
In addition, allegations have been made that former municipal councillors and ward members are using their influence to encroach on public land. Many complainants expressed frustration, noting that despite filing complaints, no response or action had been taken by local authorities.
HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath, who was present at the meeting, acknowledged the concerns and assured that the agency would look into the matter.
