Hyderabad: An officer from HYDRAA (Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency) who resolved a public grievance during the recent Prajavani program was felicitated by residents in a rare public gesture of appreciation. Inspector Thirumalesh was honored by locals in the presence of HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath.

The grievance involved the removal of illegal walls blocking a 20-foot-wide connecting road near Katedan in Rajendranagar Mandal. The road links the Indira Gandhi Co-operative Housing Society to a 60-foot road leading to Sriram Colony. Residents said the obstruction forced them to travel an extra 4 kilometers and welcomed the swift removal by HYDRAA on May 6.

The housing society, which has around 800 plots, is adjacent to Madhuban Colony. Residents from both the Indira Gandhi and Sriramnagar Colonies expressed relief at regaining access to the shorter route.

They also thanked Commissioner Ranganath, saying that under his leadership, officials had taken timely and effective action that benefited thousands.

Residents Accuse Colony Welfare Associations of Misusing Public Land

Several complaints in the latest Prajavani session alleged that leaders of colony welfare associations are misusing land designated for public amenities such as parks and roads. Residents claimed that instead of safeguarding public land, these representatives are either selling it or creating fraudulent documents to convert it into private plots.

Despite the presence of approved layout plans clearly marking spaces for roads and parks, residents say access to these amenities is being denied. In many cases, land meant for public use is being encroached or sold off.

One complaint highlighted the encroachment of an 1,800-square-yard park area in Sai Lakshmi Layout, located in Survey Numbers 181 and 183 under the Nizampet Municipal Corporation. In another, nearly 5 acres of land designated for parks and roads in Survey Numbers 153, 154, and 155 were reported missing. Encroachment of 2.3 acres of VNR Park land was also reported.

Commissioner Ranganath reviewed the locations via satellite imagery and directed officials to take appropriate action. A total of 61 complaints were received during Monday’s session.

Diamond Hills Residents Say Entire Layout Has Disappeared

Plot owners in the Diamond Hills Colony, Hydernagar, Kukatpally, alleged that their entire 9-acre layout with 70 residential plots had been taken over illegally. Despite a favorable High Court verdict in 2024, they claimed they are still unable to reclaim their land. Roads and parks originally part of the layout have also reportedly vanished.

Residents of Devaryamjal village in Thumkunta Municipality, Medchal-Malkajgiri district, reported that a 40-foot road connecting the National Highway and Outer Ring Road (ORR) between Kandlakoya and Devaryamjal has been blocked by a compound wall, disrupting access.

In Tirumala Housing Colony, Anumagul (Hayathnagar), 2,955 square yards of GHMC park land have allegedly been encroached upon. Residents said attempts to develop the park using a sanctioned budget of ₹1.20 crore are being hindered. Despite a court ruling against the encroachers, the land has not been vacated.

A separate complaint reported the illegal construction on Full Tank Level (FTL) land in the Turkam Cheruvu area of Bachupally Mandal, also under Nizampet Corporation. Locals said construction is ongoing on government land and demanded immediate intervention.
