HYDRAA Chief orders speedy completion of six lake developments in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) Commissioner A.V. Ranganath on Wednesday, June 5, 2025, has directed officials to speed up lake development works across the city, stressing the need to ensure all lakes are filled with clean water during the upcoming monsoon season.
On Tuesday, the Commissioner inspected Bathukamma Kunta and Bum-Rukn-ud-Dowla lakes. On Wednesday, he reviewed the ongoing works at Thammidikunta and Sunnam lakes.
At Thammidikunta lake, which currently spans 14 acres, Ranganath proposed expanding the water-holding capacity to 26 acres, with an additional 4 acres set aside for ecological conservation. He instructed that the lake bund be reinforced and a concrete wall constructed on the outer side, considering the presence of nearby residential buildings in this low-lying area.
During his visit to Sunnam lake, he noted that although the lake originally covered 32.20 acres, it currently retains water in only 14.18 acres. He directed officials to restore the lake to its full capacity and increase its depth. HYDRAA has already begun draining wastewater and removing foul-smelling silt in preparation for clean water storage this monsoon. Commissioner Ranganath highlighted that the development of the six lakes taken up in the first phase must be completed without delay.
